Objective
The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, serve the Church and their neighbor on a voluntary basis. The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active cooperation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The parish-level unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium, which holds a weekly meeting, where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussion. The Legion sees as its priority the spiritual and social welfare of each individual.
Activities
The Holy Family praesidium participates in the life of the parish through visitation of local nursing homes and evangelization in a variety of ways, including serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for the homebound. We have the goal of sanctification of our members and other individuals as our objective.
Membership
Membership is open to active, practicing Catholics who feel drawn to the goal of the Legion. The prayers and works, done as the Blessed Virgin Mary did in serving Christ, have immense merit to the individual members. If one cannot attend the meetings nor do the active works, they can commit to be supportive prayer warriors. Each member renews their commitment annually to the 2 hour per week commitment to do Legion spiritual works of mercy, attend the meetings, and to pray the Legion prayers and the rosary daily.
Meetings
Our meetings are held each Wednesday 8:30am. Meetings are held in the Parish Hall conference room and last no more than 1½ hours.
