"Christ instituted the sacrament of Penance for all sinful members of his Church: above all for those who, since Baptism, have fallen into grave sin, and have thus lost their baptismal grace and wounded ecclesial communion." CCC1446.
"Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." Jn 20:21-23.
Children in the Sacramental Preparation Classes are taught how to go to Confession. Parents should begin bringing thier children to Confession regularly once they begin classes or sooner if appropriate. We do not celebrate a "First Confession" but encourage parents to help their children understand Confession and begin recieving the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly.
